We are constantly exposed to messages of all kinds - in words and in symbols, ones that are directed to us and sometimes to mysterious others. This series presents a sample of these messages - ones encountered at home and during my travels. Some might invoke curiosity and some “head-scratching” or even incite a chuckle. Perhaps this series might even inspire discussions about the immense number of messages that we see. It might also be the focus of a meditation.
Some messages are meant to keep us safe or to provide information, while others aim to control our behaviour to conform to societal norms. The meaning of some is just unclear. Sometimes, we even look for meaning in artifacts, like squiggles of tar on asphalt, which have no communicative purpose at all.
We filter out most messages from our consciousness but once we become aware of their ubiquitous presence, we probably won’t be able to “un-see” them.
